Whereas traditional heat pumps and central air conditioning systems force cooled and heated air through ducts, ductless heating and cooling systems deliver air directly into different zones. They are comprised of a small outdoor unit and one or more indoor units that require nothing more than mounting capabilities and access to electricity.

Sometimes referred to as split systems, mini split systems, multi-split systems, or ductless units heating and cooling offers home owners a cost-effective way to replace inefficient window air conditioning units, space heaters and electric baseboard heaters. They can be installed in home additions, new construction, condominiums, or to improve temperature control in specific rooms. Ductless systems can be fit for buildings that currently use ducted forced-air systems. ​​

  • Number of zones: Multi zone systems, or ductless mini splits, come with a single compressor and multiple evaporators to heat or cool different areas in your home.

  • AC vs. heat pump: Daikin’s line of mini split air conditioners can only cool your space. However, the Daikin mini split heat pump products both cool and heat.

  • SEER rating: SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Ratings generally range from 13 to 21 for modern AC units. The higher the number, the more efficient the system.
